Ensa giizhigat g’zhichigemi ninda miinwaa kiinwi mino bemaadiziwin, ekinoomaagzijik bazindaami ekinoomaagejik biindik kinoomaagegamigoong miinwaa nakaaza ninda Niishwaaswi Kinomaadwinan ensa giizhigat!

(Practice these every day and you will live a good life, students listen to the teachers inside the school and use these 7 Grandfather Teachings every day!)

Niishwaaswi Kinomaadwinan – Seven Grandfather Teachings

Mnaadendamowin (Respect) – Mino daapin bemaadizijik.  Bizindoo weweni enendamowaad miinwaa kanenegaajaak.  Mnaadenim wesiinhak miinwaa Shkakimi Kwe.  (Accept people for who they are.  Listen openly to other opinions and be sensitive towards people’s feelings. Respect animals and Mother Earth).

Dbaadendiziwin (Humility) – Dibegendizan.  Nsidowaamdan bizhi kshki’ewziyin gibimaadziiwining, mii owi gezhi debiziyin.  (Strive to become a modest person. Recognizing the accomplishments you have achieved in your life is gratification enough).

Debwewin (Truth) – Waankii’endaagizin.  Dizhindan miinwaa dane’an edebowemigak eta.  (Be a trustworthy individual. Discuss only factual information and in turn seek out knowledge that is accurate).

Aak’dehewin (Bravery/Courage) – Mino daapin giishpin gegoo zhi maazhii’ii’yin miinwaa geyii naaniibwitan.  Aakde’en wii gijitooyin gegoo miinwaa gegwa noonde aanshiitige.  (Take responsibility for your mistakes and meet unknown circumstances head on.  Be a risk taker and do not let short falls discourage you).

Zaagidwin (Love) – Zhinoomo zaagidwin giitaa’iing bemiyaajig.  Ka kendimoonaak zaagidwin gidizhiinwin miinwaa kwiijkiiyenhik.  Naaniigaan, ka zaagidis. (Show affection and fondness for those around you.  Allow your family and friends to know you adore them unconditionally.  Most importantly, love yourself).

Gwekwaadiziwin (Honesty) – Ka gwekwaajim ekidayin miinwaa ka wiinghez eshchigeyin.  Gegwa giimootkamigiske maage gjikidooswin.  (Be upfront about everything that you say or do.  Your words and actions should not have a hidden agenda or motive).

Nibwaakaawin (Wisdom) – Nsidwaadziwin miinwaa kendaaswin dinan gibimaadziwning.  Miinwaa naawsijigen gegoo zhi maazhii’iiyin.  Nakaazan ginibwaakaawin wii digojiinman kinomaadwinan gechi piidzijig miinwaa binoojiinhyak maagwewaad.  (Be wise and gain knowledge through life experiences.  Furthermore, learn from your mistakes.  Expand your wisdom to include teachings from elders and children).
